Diode Lasers – Light from Electricity without the Indirect Route
Typical for a high powered laser from Laserline is the direct use of diodes as the most efficient form of beam creation. The basic advantage of high power diode lasers lies in the direct transformation of electricity into light without the indirect route over a pump medium.
Thus, diode lasers are more compact, more efficient, more mobile and easier to handle than all other lasers. Diode lasers will not disappoint because they are almost maintenance-free and have long lifetimes.

The diode – the heart of beam generation
In the laser beam source, there are several diode laser stacks arranged, consisting of single diode bars. The number of bars per stack and the total number of stacks are decisive for the output laser power, the diode laser wavelength and the required beam quality. With the help of a simple, patented technology, the beams of the single diodes are overlaid into one common laser beam and coupled into a fiber-optic cable (high power fiber laser). In most cases, the modular design of the laser head (high power laser module and fiber coupled laser module) makes it possible to further equip the systems with more stacks so as to increase the power later.
          • LDF Series

          • LDF Series with Beam Converter

          • Brilliant Diode Lasers

            Application with Precision
Many developments for precision machining, such as remote welding applications, require industrial-grade beam sources with high power and high brilliance. Here, the Laserline beam converter concept perfectly combines the modularity, practicality and cost effectiveness of LDF diode lasers with high beam qualities.

            Brilliance Through Transformation
The beam converter is a technical enhancement of the proven LDF core technology with directly cooled laser diodes. Starting from a standard diode laser, a laser beam at medium beam quality is first focused into an active fiber – the converter. The converter module transforms the brilliance of the laser beam. In contrast to LDF systems without beam converter, the wavelength changes only slightly and is about 1080 nm. Different configurations thus enable an output power of up to 8 kW with brilliant beam quality of 4, 6 or 8 mm mrad.

            Technical Advantages at a Glance
            • Fiber-coupled lasers with up to 8,000 W laser power
            • High beam quality of up to 4 mm mrad
            • Compact and economical design
            • Building on proven LDF basic technology
            • 5-year warranty for laser diodes
          • LDFpulse

          • The combination of brilliance and pulse energy

The LDFpulse laser is ideal for fast surface processing. With a beam quality of 4 mm mrad, pulse energies of up to 10 mJ are achieved. The pulse energy and the repetition rate can be adapted to the specific process requirements. The combination with scanner optics enables the processing of large surface areas in short processing times. LDFpulse is particularly suitable for applications to create very filigree surface structures or for large-area stripping of enamelled copper wires at highest process speeds.

A special feature of LDFpulse is the ability to switch between pulsed and CW operation. Thus, a single laser can be used for both pulsed and CW applications.

Specifically designed for highly dynamic applications, and for usage in small handling systems or for integration into systems with low assembly space, the OTC series offers excellent features.
            • OTZ zoom optics

            • Always the suitable spot
Perfectly tailored to Laserline's diode lasers, OTZ zoom optics make flexible creation of spot lengths and widths possible. Changing process scenarios can thus be realized with only one optic. The application’s specific configuration can be optimized with supplementing modules from the Laserline system construction kit.

In laser applications with a regularly changing task range, e.g. surface hardening in order production, users need to not having to exchange the process optic perpetually. The OTZ zoom optics from Laserline offer here the optimal support. With continuously consistent top-hat energy distribution in the laser focus, spot lengths or widths between 5 and 174 mm are possible. Therefore, from quasi linear to large-scale square spots, various focus varieties are possible.

              Dynamic at the Work Piece
The Laserline OTZ zoom optics control track width and beam height of the laser beam at the workpiece via motorized adjustment of the homogenization elements. The geometrical spot parameters can additionally be changed during the running process. With the help of these dynamic adjustments, highly complex process tasks can be handled flexibly and efficiently. Water cooling and integrated temperature sensors allow for permanent operation at high power of up to 10 kilowatts, and thus qualify the Laserline OTZ optics for usage in multi-shift operations. In rough production environments, stable housing with protection class IP54 protects the optic from dust and humidity.
            • Multi-spot optics

            • Beam Splitting and Tailored Spots
With the Laserline multi-spot module, almost any desired spot geometry and intensity distribution can be realized. Besides beam splitting for the creation of several single spots, the module also allows for the adjustment of spot geometry as well as targeted manipulation of the intensity distribution within the spot. Here, the multi-spot module is configured in such a way that the focus meets exactly the process demands. Furthermore, parameters such as spot distance or distribution of power to the single spots can be finely adjusted.

              Example: Triple Spot
A typical application of the Laserline multi-spot module is the triple spot method for brazing hot-galvanized steel sheets. The combination here of a homogeneous rectangular spot with two round pre-spots allows for the realization of high process speeds with high quality process results at the same time. This is made possible because of the two pre-spots that are used to ablate the galvanization and thus contribute to a calming of the brazing process.

            • Applications

            • Laser Material Processing in Industrial Production

Diode lasers represent an economical, compact heat source that can be adapted for many laser material processing applications by suitable additional components or special optics. Typical applications are welding, brazing or hardening. Laserline diode lasers are also established in newer manufacturing methods such as additive manufacturing.

                • Laser Welding

                • Hardly any industrial branch can do without laser welding, because in almost every production process there are metals and plastics that have to be joined. Laser beam welding is ideal for this, especially when high welding speeds, narrow welding seams and low thermal distortion are required.
                    • Heat Conduction Welding

                    • Diode lasers optimize heat conduction welding in a number of ways. The uniform power output and homogeneous intensity distribution of the top-hat beam profile guarantee excellent seam qualities and high process stability.
                    • Keyhole Welding

                    • A big plus of Laserline's diode lasers at keyhole welding is the calm molten pool that minimizes the amount of metal splashes on the workpiece and laser optic which leads to smoother and cleaner welding seams.

Besides the aluminum welding or the joining of tailored blanks, applications for welding thick steel with a laser power of 50 kW are also realized.
                    • Copper Welding

                    • 450 nm wavelength and 1500 W laser power (CW) open up new possibilities for high-quality laser welding of copper and the effective processing of gold and other non-ferrous metals in industrial series production.
                    • Hybrid Welding

                    • Leverage synergies: Laser-MSG hybrid welding combines the advantages of two proven welding processes. Hybrid welding processes represent a special combination of laser welding with MSG welding processes (metal shielding gas welding). Here either MIG or MAG welding (metal inert gas and metal active gas welding) and TIG welding (tungsten inert gas welding) are used.
                    • Laser Brazing

                    • Laser brazing and welding with filler wire are well-established methods for joining metal component, which are especially used for brazing of car body components in industrial mass production. The highest requirements for the optical appeal of the seam are on the outer skin. A typical application is the laser brazing of galvanized sheets in tailgates as well as the roof / sidewall connection. In these applications, Laserline is also leading in the process development, and offers tailored multi-spot modules for optimizing the respective process.
                  • Cladding · Laser Metal Deposition

                  • Laser metal deposition or laser cladding, is an important field of application for high-power diode lasers in the industrial sector. Components coated by deposition welding are used in a wide variety of areas. For instance, the development of oil and gas fields requires high-performance drilling tools. They are subject to enormous stress and would not achieve a long lifetime without wear protection. For this reason, special coatings have long been standard, which are increasingly being realized by laser deposition welding. Laserline LDM and LDF diode lasers achieve excellent results here.
                      • Corrosion and Wear Protection

                      • Pore-free and crack-free layers with a long lifetime - tougher than thermal spray coatings
                      • Repair Welding

                      • Stable new coatings - reliable crack closings - low production costs
                      • Additive Manufacturing

                      • Calm process control - crack-free material layers - filigree components possible
                    • Heat Treatment

                    • Heat treatments can be realized more flexibly, precisely, and often even more economical with LDM and LDF diode lasers than with other laser beam sources or other tools like gas flames, infrared rays or induction coils.

This applies, for example, to selective surface hardening of gripping tools or mold surfaces at especially stressed areas.
                        • Hardening

                        • Selective heating with exact temperature control – suitable for all component geometries – ideal for commission hardening
                        • Heating / Softening

                        • Accurate heating – even softening across the surface – high process speed
                        • Drying

                        • Ideal light wavelengths – simple system integration – optimal power range
                      • Diode Lasers in the Plastic Industry

                      • Aircraft parts, pressure vessels, seals or pipe systems from fiber-reinforced composite materials based on plastomer (e.g. CFRP) are increasingly being used to replace conventional constructions from steel or aluminum. They offer weight reductions of up to 70% with improved mechanical characteristics.

Tape laying and tape wrapping of fiber-reinforced plastics are, for example, early developed fields of application for Laserline's diode lasers. The put or wrapped town CFRP tapes are welded with the help of LDM diode lasers. These methods are used for the production of seamless tubes for example, such as for an offshore area.
                          • Tape Laying

                          • Homogeneous exposure – controlled heating – sped-up process flow
                          • Edgeband Welding

                          • Optics without visible joints – no melting-related overheating – processing of all common edge-tape measures
                          • Plastic Welding

                          • Gentle energy input – no forming fluff – exact reproducibility
                        • Laser Cutting

                        • The Process Advantages of the Diode Lasers
Compared to other applications, laser cutting makes the highest demands on the laser beam’s focus-ability. For a couple of years now, the diode lasers of Laserline have more than met the necessary requirements and are used in robot-based cutting applications in production.

The advantages of laser cutting compared to other methods - contact-free, force-free, low heat input, high cutting speed, absence of burr - will only reach their full potential when using diode lasers. The biggest advantages of the diode laser only come into play when the same beam source is simultaneously used not only for cutting, but also for other methods like welding and brazing in car body construction. Here, other laser beam sources are inferior to the diode laser as a universal tool.
                              • Laser Cutting

                              • Low heat input - high cutting speed - particularly suited for parallel use with laser for other processes
