X-Yacht

Company Profile

Twenty years ago, in 1979, one of today's most successful production yards was formed. The first model introduced (in May 1979) became Denmark's answer to the new trend of 8 metre One Design classes (the J-24 from USA or the Albin Express from Sweden). Success on the race course for the X-79 lead to success in sales and X-Yachts was born. Recession in Denmark in the early 80's lead X-Yachts to look overseas for sales opportunities. A larger, offshore yacht was conceived, and the X-102, forerunner to the famous X 3/4 tonner was introduced to International acclaim. She won the World Championships in Finland in 1981 and in Spain in 1982. By 1983 the X-79 Class had grown to become the largest One-Design Class in Northern Europe (with over 350 boats), and with the success of the X-102 opening the eyes of the International market, X-Yachts were becoming a well established manufacturer, with representation in 15 countries. Throughout the 80's X-Yachts developed a number of larger production cruiser / racers as well as offshore racing yachts. This production, combined with the ongoing success of the X-79, and the unprecedented launch of the X-99 (over 100 boats sold before the first boat was launched) saw annual production increase to between 200 - 300 units. Moving into the '90's X-Yachts have concentrated mainly in the development, construction and marketing of the very successful "Performance Cruising" line which began with the launch of the X-412. Today X-Yachts Performance Cruising Line consists of 11 models between 30 and 60 feet which all share the same design and construction philosophy. That is, to have the most comfortable, easily handled yacht possible which, in the right hands and with the right sails and crew is capable of winning the most prestigious regattas against the toughest competition. Proof of this philosophy lies in the victory of X-Yachts (IMX 38 and X-332) in the European IMS Championships 3 times in the last 5 years, beating in the process custom one-off IMS racing machines.
