SIGMATEK: Functional Safety: High Flexibility with Macro Technology

A programmable safety system is essential for developing modular, economical machines and systems quickly. SIGMATEK’s SCP 211 provides a highly powerful safety CPU that supports new software functions, simplifying the creation and handling of safety applications. Safety development is carried out in the LASAL SAFETYDesigner using certified function blocks based on PLCopen standards.

Modeled after object-oriented programming, which has characterized SIGMATEK controllers for 25 years, it is now possible to create custom macro libraries for safety applications. The unique feature of LASAL Safety Macros is their multi-level hierarchical structure. Each macro is encapsulated and can be tested independently, as it has its own CRC checksum. This significantly reduces the effort required for overall testing to achieve certifications.

The LASAL SafetyDesigner allows developers of safety-related applications to make them fully parameterizable and therefore highly flexible. Thus, it is sufficient to create one safety application for a machine or system with numerous options that applies to all equipment variants.

Parameter lists as an engineering turbo boost

The configuration, specifically the adaptation to the often customer-specific machine, is achieved through a parameter list. Like the application itself, the parameter list is protected. To ensure security, password-protected mechanisms are used when transferring the lists to set different equipment variants.

Automating the test procedures with test programs running in the sequence control significantly reduces the development effort for machines with many variants. Along with hot-plug capability, this enables exceptionally flexible operation of modular machines and systems by allowing safety controller parameterization during runtime.
