In order to fit the requirement for informal communication, Wilkhahn assigned interior designers Marcus Jehs and Jürgen Laub to develop a seating and relaxing lounge furniture range that combines quality features with a state of the art design and a seating comfort of wellness. The result is a slender, subtly organically shaped aluminium frame giving Asienta its elegant contours which appear to be perfectly enveloped in sophisticated cushioning and covers. Visually soft, but compactly upholstered, the cubes distinguish themselves through their exclusive appearance.
The designers’ concept was equally as simple as it was ingenious. The idea is based on precisely shaped cubes whose side and back panels are softly enveloped by covers. On the outside they seamlessly enclose the cubes and on the inside their curved shapes make the seating look eye-catching and invitingly comfortable.
Stylish supporting structure
The supporting structure consists of four slender, die-cast aluminium legs with gently curved profiles. Fluidly designed, they also form the corner knuckles for the horizontal aluminium frame. From the front to the armrest, the contours of the support structure are clearly obvious.
exclusive upholstery
The cubes consist of horseshoe-shaped multiplex cushions covered with a hard-wearing, elastic fabric. Consequently, the top edges on the armrests make getting up or sitting down easier and they are pleasantly elastic in between. On the outside they are thin and flat, but on the inside the cushions are upholstered in a distinctive, plump form. The cubes’ seat frames feature wave springs and are screwed into the aluminium support structures. The result is virtually unbeatable comfort and extreme stability. Because the upholstery at the sides is the same quality as the back, Asienta encourages different postures, depending on whether it is a chair or a sofa.
craftsmanship at its best
The shape is soft, but firm enough for the cushions to lend support that is ergonomically beneficial and allows them to keep their clearly defined precise shape. The craftsmanship is first class. The seat, back and armrests are presented in sophisticated textile or high-quality leather covers which appear to be from one piece. The contours of the cubes look as if they have been perfectly wrapped. The slender, curved cross-sections on the leg and frame profiles give the compact upholstery a lightweight appeal.
Gravitas for high-end areas
In creating Asienta, the designers and Wilkhahn have developed an upholstered furniture range that fuses precision with visual softness, traditionally cuboid lines with organic curves and exclusive quality with inviting and healthy seated comfort. The characteristic design integrates with different types of room and interior-design concepts. Asienta is ideal for executive offices, in high-class lobbies, in exclusive clubs or homes.
A variety of models and designs
The very hard-wearing structure with four outside legs makes huge spans possible. Consequently, the range has stand-alone chains in compact and normal widths (70 and 77.5 centimetres), as well as 150-centimetre-wide two-seater and 218-centimetre-wide three-seater sofas and upholstered benches. Seating height of 42 centimetres and firm upholstery make getting up easier.
The square and rectangular side tables are made to match the upholstered furniture. The cross-sections of the table legs look like arched triangles, the under frames have curved outside edges and a seam towards the inside that the tabletop is inserted into. The tabletop is enclosed and its edges are protected. This is a particularly useful feature if the tabletops are made of single-pane reinforced glass. There is a choice of veneered plywood or glass tops with an opaque black or white varnish applied to the bottom.
The surfaces of the seating frames and the tables are optionally bright chromium plated, chromium-plated with a polished matt finish, or coated. The covers are available in particularly high-quality textiles or leather.
