The industry’s “who’s who” double feature: 8th KNARR Precision Day coincides with the VDWF Annual General Meeting. The event featured a bustling supplier exhibition, guided tours offering insights into various companies, a diverse program of presentations, and a notable keynote speech by a professional football referee sharing his decision-making experiences. Hosted by the Franconian standard parts manufacturer, the event attracted record participation, with over 500 users and decision-makers from core areas such as design, tool and mold making, and plastics technology engaging in fruitful discussions in a relaxed atmosphere.

Moderated by Thomas Wunsiedler, the event’s varied presentation program began with Thomas Schmidt from KNARR Group, who discussed the potentials of core technology for various applications. Following this, EROWA CEO Frank Pröpster introduced his automation approach and the path to a “smart factory,” while Stefan Huber from Primaform AG shared insights on why his company received the “Toolmaker of the Year 2023” award in the category of toolmaking with fewer than 50 employees.

After the lunch break, Torsten Glittenberg, CEO of WITOSA, highlighted how additive capabilities of 3D printing technology are making their way into hot runner systems. Professor Dr. Thomas Seul, also the VDWF chairman, delivered a captivating presentation on the future requirements of toolmaking, characterized by his active role in shaping the industry without entrepreneurial blinders.

Complementing the presentations, 30 renowned KNARR partners showcased their offerings in the exhibition area, fostering networking opportunities and insightful discussions. Throughout the day, small groups of visitors had the chance to tour the KNARR facilities, accompanied by technical experts, witnessing a blend of traditional manufacturing methods with modern machinery and impressive depth of production. Notably, the tailored tours received positive feedback for addressing participants’ questions individually.

As a special highlight, attendees enjoyed a keynote speech by Dr. Felix Brych, a professional football referee, who shared insights into decision-making challenges on and off the field, often applicable to the business realm. Brych’s anecdotes and perspectives entertained the audience, concluding with an engaging Q&A session.

Following the event-packed day, the VDWF pre-assembly event seamlessly transitioned into the VDWF Annual General Meeting, attended by around 230 members who took advantage of networking opportunities amidst additional guided tours, entertainment, and culinary delights.

Rainer Knarr, Managing Director, summarized, “Our aim is to provide a practical networking platform in a familiar environment.” Undoubtedly, the team made strides toward achieving this goal at this year’s Precision Day event.
