      • UNILOCK Zero Point Clamping Technology

      • Every UNILOCK zero-point clamping chuck has been developed for a special application to manage different needs in an efficient way.

Years of experience in the zero-point clamping section and the enthusiasm for clamping technique in general are reflected in our products. The UNILOCK family has been designed and developed as a system from the very beginning. In addition to the individual clamping chucks our construction department can develop you special clamping- and fixture solutions. Our engineering know-how in this area is valued and demanded worldwide.
          • Features

          • The powerful, solid UNILOCK clamping knob is classified as the key element of the range and has become a standard norm in the zero-point clamping technique through the years.

The media-free, self-locking clamping station disposes over a very high, force-locking contact area. The conical part of the short taper is centered itself and allows an easy retraction.

Free-of-play, force conclusive centering and repeatability of <0.003mm in optimum conditions shape the character of UNILOCK. A major advantage in comparison to different competitors products is the form-locking device and the holding force of 50000N (statically) by fixing with a M12 clamping screw.

          • Function

          • UNILOCK zero-point clamping chucks are available in pneumatic and manual version (it depends on the type of clamping chuck). Clamping chucks which are operated with medium air have two air connection options, one at the side and one from below with an O-ring seal.

The opening is performed by adding compressed air (6bar) and closing mechanically by spring force. To increase the pull-in forces, the UNILOCK system uses the double-acting piston to provide a TURBO EFFECT, which reinforces the spring tension several times depending on the pressure. Here, the piston base is additionally subjected to compressed air during the locking process.

            1 CLAMPING KNOB
It connects the Clamping chuck to the work piece. The mounting method depends on the work piece weight or the machining process. Important is, to choose the appropriate sized thread.

            2 BODY
Clamping chucks are manufactured in different ways, according to their application. Material: steel, hardened, corrosion-resistant.

            3 SLIDE WEDGES
They are very solid made out of hardened, high-tensile steel for a safe locking function.

            4 PISTON
It includes high-quality sealing elements and pins which ensure a balanced movement of the slide wedges.

            5 SPRINGS
Springs made of durable quality steel ensure that the clamping force is maintained in the unpressurised state.

                • Function

                • The UNILOCK Clamping knob provides commonality and interchangeability between all Standard Clamping chucks. Due to the high proportion in the centering taper and a thick-wall, low-profile construction, these Clamping knobs perfectly suit heavy-duty machining. Outstanding performance will be achieved by the backlash-free short taper centering and the self-locking clamping contour.

                  1 TAPER PLANAR SUPPORT
High-precision taper planar support for a high, form-locking and low wear power transmission. This high taper-to-taper contact ratio is able to provide high repeatable accuracies of <0.005mm over long term utilization. (Some Clamping knobs achieve repeatability accuracies of <0.001mm).

                  2 LOCKING SURFACE
A massive contact surface provides high power transmissions in the area of entry- and retention force. The 15° clamping surface ensures an involuntary opening of the clamping system by self-locking.

                  3 INSERTION RADIUS
The big radius facilitates the damage free manual loading operation and the placing of the Clamping knob.

                  4 CENTERING
Standard centering: Dia. 25mm, Length 5mm. Special diameters and lengths are available on request.

                  5 FIXATION

screws in different sizes are provided.
                • Fixtures - Screws

                • All mentioned UNILOCK fitting screws are made of high-strength material and hardened for a centering in the precise thread. Note the L 4 types center over the pass diameter. Insert rings are available in screw L 3 = 8 mm for the possibility of adapting the thread depth.
                • Positioning Kit

                • This UNILOCK 5-Axis Positioning-kit is used for a precise and grid-free positioning of UNILOCK 5-Axis Base chucks on the machine table.

The UNILOCK Positioning-Kit can for example be fixed with the upper screw (S1) in a Weldon chuck with dia. 25mm (ISO 40, ISO 50, HSK forms).

The second screw (S2) remains loose. By driving into the 5-Axis Base chuck, the Clamping knob can deflect for 2-3mm. In addition, an O-Ring of 5mm wall thickness serves as a damper.

This system series can be wonderfully combined with the UNILOCK 5-Axis System 40 in order to optimally process even smaller workpieces in height. Factors important to the system are shown below.

                    1 Clamping bolt
The UNILOCK clamping knob connects the workpiece, the device or the clamping pallet with the UNILOCK clamping chuck. The small UNILOCK clamping knob with a diameter of 25mm is attached to the workpiece with an M10 clamping screw.

                    2 Reduction
Reductions offer the advantage of being able to clamp components with a small contact surface. The workpiece accessibility is considerably increased.

                    3 Assembly chucks
The add-on chuck is available in height 50mm and serves to increase the UNILOCK 5-Axis System 25 base chuck. In combination with two or more chucks, a different high construction can be achieved.

                    4 Base chuck
The base chuck is used for mounting on the machine table and forms the foundation of the UNILOCK 5-Axis System 25 series. It can also be mounted on all UNILOCK System 40 chucks via the integrated, bottom-side mounting fixture for UNILOCK standard clamping knobs. The base chuck is available including anti-twist device.

                    5 Operation
The operation of the UNILOCK 5-axis system is media-free and manual. The clamping wedges are opened or closed via a threaded spindle. The maximum tightening torque of 15Nm must be observed.

                    6 Fixation
The flexible mounting options of the 5-axis system simplify installation and setup.

                  • Clamping Chucks

                  • The UNILOCK 5-Axis System 25 clamping chucks are divided into base chuck and add-on chuck. The base chuck can be placed directly on the machine table or mounted on a UNILOCK System 40 chuck using a UNILOCK standard clamping knob. The expansion chuck serves to increase the base chuck. Combined with both elements, different heights can be achieved.

                  • Reductions

                  • The workpiece to be machined or the device to be machined can be constructed by means of reductions workpiece holders or clamping knobs. The desired interface can be selected as needed.

The use of soft or hard reduction adapters makes it possible to clamp components with a small contact surface for even better access to the workpiece. The soft reduction adapters can be easily processed for any requirement.

                        • The QX Magnetic clamping technique

                        • The QX technology comes with many improvements, both mechanical and magnetic. The use of coherent block pole fields in the monolithic frame construction of the magnetic chuck significantly increased the rigidity compared to the old single-pole technology - despite the lower overall height. Likewise, the revolutionary block field technology reduces the epoxy resin surfaces and improves the magnetic retention force and the air gap behavior. The threads in the soft magnetic poles are provided with wear-resistant tool steel inserts.

It is available for plates in different heights and clamping blocks. Two different pole sizes can be selected, 50*50mm and 70*70mm.Poles with the size of 50*50mm generate a magnetic field which enters about12mm and poles with the size of 70*70mm generate a magnetic field which enters about 18mm into the work piece. Both pole sizes have their advantages for various big work pieces.

                          Nominal retention force:
                          Pole 50*50mm = 160N /cm² = 4kN per pole
                          Pole 70*70mm = 160N /cm² = 7,8kN pro Pol

                        • Fix and Movable Pole extentions

                        • Fix Pole extensions are used to specify the three-point contact when used in combination with movable Pole extensions. Mobile Pole extensions are an important support to clamp work pieces on their complete surface area, warping free.

1 Thread tip-free three point support with fix and movable Pole extensions for automatic adaptation on the work piece.

2 Produce quickly a parallel surface by using Pole extentions:

                          Roughing 1. face
Turn work piece, roughing 2. face
Turn work piece, finish 1. face

                        • MAGNET Clamping Technology

                        • Depending on the workpiece or machine table, different magnetic clamping plates are available. They vary in shape, height and magnet power as well as in their pole arrangement and pole size. The correct control system for the respective magnetic chuck can be easily found in the lower tables by quoting the short name. Let us know your requirement, we will help you to choose your chuck.

                          • Release contact for machine safety
                        • Pole extension

                        • Magnetic pole extensions are basically divided into fixed and mobile pole extensions. Fixed and mobile pole extensions on your square pole clamping systems enable the clamping of wavy and warped metal parts. They adapt to the workpiece and keep it safe. The individual points of contact between the magnetic clamping plate and the workpiece can be defined individually. This makes it possible to drill and machine inner edges on magnetically clamped workpieces. Additional pole extensions can be installed in the shortest possible time or remove interfering, so each workpiece has its individual clamping device in an instant.

                          Pole extension features

Magnetic chucks with pole extensions are also suitable for 5-sided machining. Complex structures for hard to clamp work pieces can be added into the magnetic active surface with pole plates. The following characteristics are decisive:

Vibration-free operation and clamping of work pieces
Protection for the magnet clamping plate

                            • Mineral cast technology for mounting and clamping devices

Mineral cast is a two-part-system, consisting of mineral particles and an epoxy casting resin as binding material. The main materials in the finished mineral cast are minerals with about 90 weightpercent. The epoxy casting resin consists of liquid resin and curing agent. Mineral cast will be molded, by using a cold-castprocedure at room temperature, into precise negative forms. The minerals will be a combination of different mineral sizes and the liquids, which will be intensively mixed together under a special procedure. After that, the mixture will be cast into the forms under vibration and a homogeneous structure is created. The hardening afterwards is an exothermic process and takes about 12 hours. The cast can then be put out of the forms and the forms can be prepared for the next process.

A relevant advantage of this procedure is that the results are accurate to shape and measure. That’s why machine elements like thread inserts, plates, guidances and tupes for example can be placed exactly into the cast and don’t have to be reworked or finished after the shaping. Another advantage especially for the application and clamping device production are the good vibration damping, the low weight (Tightness 2.3 kg/dm3) of the material and the various design possibilities. Subsuming can be noted that the mineral cast is having lots of advantages for the end customer like efficient use on machine centers (speed, tool wear, finish quality), short procurement time and interesting procurement prices. The specific material properties require an adjusted engineering according to each application. They enable flexible solutions, however, particularly in the fixture construction and therefore contribute to the economical use of the procedure.

                                • ROC History

                                • The search for alternatives to metallic raw materials - in machine tool building especially - started during the Second World War already. The main focus was on improved vibration dampening and good material availability. At that time, first tests on concrete beds for turning machines were made in Germany, which were not very successful in the beginning.

Only around 1960 were machine tool beds manufactured industrially from hydraulic concrete. However, this concrete had two crucial disadvantages: a very low tensile strength and its problematic performance towards liquids. Later on, mechanical parts were produced from polymer concrete, which was already well known in the building industry. After some years searching for an adequate binder, the epoxy-based mineral cast established itself. The deficiencies of the hydraulic concrete could be avoided, but the production was still challenging and expensive.

In the late 70ies, companies of the grinding machine sector started producing grinding machine beds from mineral cast. Also smaller companies of other fields started using mineral cast, so that the use of the material became popular in the 80ies in the machine tool building. In the 90ies, the material was so well-developed, that different manufactures in Switzerland, Germany and the United States used it to produce measuring systems, woodworking machines and devices.

Today, mineral cast technology is considered to be tried and tested as well as an economical alternative to metallic material for serial production of machines and tools. Design guidelines as well as material data are established.
