  • SMAC electronic actuators are used widely in automotive, SMT, robotics, pharmaceutical, medical assembly, laser cutting, high speed scanning, glass cutting, dispensing, switch testing, spot welding, soldering, and measuring applications to name but a few.
    • Assembly Applications

    • SMAC pick and place actuators are unique, as they enable total programmability of speed, position and force all at the same time, with an exceptional degree of accuracy and repeatability. SMAC's unique "Soft-Land" function enables the unit to gently land on a delicate component with a controlled force to avoid damage to both the component and the actuator. This allows for the placement of components at different heights. Linear/Rotary actuators come in a single ready-to-mount package with through-the rod-vacuum saves you cost and increases the throughput of the machine.
    • Automotive Applications

    • Automotive industry parts and assembly quality standards have moved from sigma level sampling to zero defect requirements. These more stringent manufacturing results can be achieved through a combination of containment through 100% inspections (eliminating bad parts) and correction through immediate feedback and adjustment. Inspection by hand can be reduced or eliminated, parts rejection can virtually be eliminated, and tool wear can be substantially reduced, all while increasing the pace of production.
    • Electronic Applications

    • SMAC's patented Soft-Land routine within the actuator allows the rod or gripper jaw to approach at high speed and then land on the surface of a component with a low programmable force. This unique feature is extremely useful whenever delicate or high value components are being handled.

      The SMAC actuators are compact, lightweight, extremely fast and accurate, offering a combination of force, position and velocity control in both the linear and rotary axis at the same time. They also offer the option of a vacuum pick-up facility. This makes the actuators ideal for the switch testing of a variety of applications such as mobile phones, PDAs, touch screens and the insertion and inspection of ICs, to name just a few.
    • Glassmaking Applications

    • SMAC electric actuators incorporate programmable speeds, positions, and, especially importantly for glass, programmable forces including very low forces on the order of 0.1N or less. SMAC electric actuators also incorporate a patented "Soft-Land" capability, which is very useful when applied to brittle materials. The force programmability works over the complete stroke, so the same force can be applied through the stroke. Soft-Land incorporates a rapid approach to the working surface followed by a gentle pre-programmed force for final contact.
    • Packaging

    • SMAC electric actuators are used for various applications in the packaging industry. SMAC's new CBL Series actuators have been specially designed with the packaging equipment OEMs and end users in mind. The CBL gives;
    • Medical and Scientific Applications

    • SMAC's newly-developed high precision actuator with resolution of five nanometers allows for precision positioning and placement for critical scientific applications. SMAC's precision actuators are fully close-looped and provide extremely accurate position data and positioning capability with resolution as high as five nanometers.

    • Three Dimensional Applications

    • SMAC is pleased to introduce its range of Multi–Axis control solutions. These systems deliver the capability to learn and follow a 3D contour or motion path with a high degree of speed, precision, accuracy and repeatability. All combinations of SMAC actuators can be used: linear, rotary and linear/rotary.

      Complex programming is not required, as the user can simply manually trace the 3D path required by the actuators, which is then automatically stored in the controller's memory. The systems also utilize linear interpolation, which enables a constant speed while following the chosen XYZ axis contour. A few ideal applications include measuring and testing (QC), depositing, machining, scoring and cutting.

      SMAC Multi–Axis 3D systems are unique, as they enable total programmability of speed, position and force all at the same time and with an exceptional degree of accuracy and repeatability. SMAC offers a complete plug-in solution with a range of highly flexible control interfaces.
    • Other Applications

    • The unique features of SMAC actuators make them ideal for many highly-specialized applications. Repeatable control force and speed, along with 100% data feedback and the ability to "Soft-Land" allow SMAC electric actuators to perform tasks that other automation devices are unable to handle. High speed inspection and testing of delicate or oddly-shaped materials and parts is easy with SMAC actuators.
