Company Profile

In 1921 Josef Becker (1897 – 1973) founded his craftman’s enterprise in an old farmhouse. The years following saw the building of the first self-designed tender for a barge operator (1922) and of the first diesel-powered boat (1928). In 1934 they moved to the present-day site of the company and renamed the company, SCHOTTEL-Werft. The development and construction of the first SCHOTTEL Rudderpropeller was completed in 1950. In 1958 the first subsidiary company abroad was founded in The Netherlands. The years between 1967 and 1986 saw the first harbour tug with two SCHOTTEL propulsion systems, the start of the development of the SCHOTTEL Pump-Jet, the introduction of CAD/CAM, and the delivery of the biggest Rudderpropeller with 6000 kW power rating. In 1989 the company was restructured. In 1994 the SCHOTTEL Quality Management System was simultaneoulsy certified in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9001 by American Bureau of Shipping, Bureau Veritas, Det Norske Veritas and Germanischer Lloyd.
